The Science Education and Public Engagement office of EMBL leads and coordinates the institute’s science education programmes and public engagement efforts. Our activities are open to European school science teachers, to young people of all backgrounds aged between 10 and 19 years, and to diverse public audiences.
Our efforts build on EMBL’s long history of science education and public engagement. They support the institute’s commitment of sharing and discussing the research taking place at EMBL with members of the public to contribute to global scientific literacy and ensuring relevance to societal challenges.
Our education programmes convey complex, cutting-edge topics in life science research in an exciting and insightful way, fostering the discovery of current research trends, the scientific method, and scientific career paths. Our engagement and outreach activities promote the dialogue between the science community of EMBL and citizens and their communities.
All our activities are developed and run in close collaboration with scientists from EMBL’s six sites. We provide training to EMBL staff and support them to play an active role in engaging diverse audiences with scientific research.
The Science Education and Public Engagement office is part of EICAT, EMBL's International Centre for Advanced Training, which promotes training activities at all six EMBL sites, between EMBL and its sister institution EMBO, and with partner organisations in the EMBL member states.
