Domingo Barettino, former EMBL postdoctoral fellow, passed away on 6 November 2013 aged 54.

Domingo Barettino, who passed away on Friday 6th November in Valencia, was a researcher at the Institute of Biomedicine in Valencia (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC), and Professor in the Department of Biotechnology in the Politechnical University of Valencia. During his stay at EMBL Heidelberg, he worked as a postdoc in the laboratory of Henk Stunnenberg, in the then Gene Expression Programme (now Genome Biology Unit). Domingo was a fine researcher, interested in transcription and gene regulation, among many other things, and one of the pioneers in highlighting the existence of alternative routes for nuclear receptor signalling. The respect and affection for him is shared by all, and we will miss him dearly.
