A year of exceptional life science research, training, service, industry collaboration, and integration of European life science research.
As an organisation that understands the importance of biodiversity, EMBL took an important step forward in 2021 to address the biodiversity of its own ecosystem.
EMBL launched its Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategy, showing a continued commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive organisation for leading molecular biology research.
“We are taking a proactive approach and will ensure we measure and report on our progress, holding ourselves accountable for delivering on what we have promised,” said EMBL Director General Edith Heard at the time of the launch.
EMBL’s EDI Strategy addresses and provides solutions to concerns flagged by colleagues and serves as a lever to EMBL’s new Programme by supporting its people, science, and innovation.
The EDI strategy encompasses four priority areas: people, internal processes and policies, EMBL research culture and leadership, and EMBL external engagement.
“The strategy will help ensure that EMBL leads by example as a fair, diverse, and inclusive workplace,” said Roshni Mooneeram, head of EMBL’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion office.
Coming into effect on 1 January 2022, EMBL’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategy becomes a vehicle for EMBL’s values: openness, inclusion, integrity, transparency, and fairness.
The full Diversity Strategy is available online.
“This strategy takes a holistic approach. That means embedding EDI values and practices across all key functions of EMBL.”
