Personal Collections

The EMBL Archive is a repository that houses the personal collections of EMBL staff and alumni. These collections include a variety of materials such as publications, correspondence, personal documents, scientific material, pictures, working papers, objects, and documentation regarding EMBL’s development, history, and scientific contributions.

Notable collections include those of the third and fourth Directors General of EMBL, Fotis Kafatos and Iain Mattaj, respectively. Other significant figures represented in the archive are Graham Cameron (Head of Services at EBI, later Head of the site and Associate Director of EBI) and Christian Boulin (Director of Core Facilities and Scientific Services), as well as one of the EMBL’s first administrative staff members Frieda Glöckner.
