The main focus of the Biology Centre is scientific research in the fields of evolutionary biology and ecology in the following areas of the life sciences: entomology, hydrobiology, plant molecular biology, parasitology and soil biology. The lessons learned contribute to a better understanding of biological phenomena in nature, such as the origin, development and sustainability of the species diversity (biodiversity) of organisms. The scientific research findings of the Biology Centre are used in agriculture , forestry, fisheries, human health, veterinary medicine and other application areas.
Major components of the Biology Centre activities include educational activities for students at all levels of study, the education of postdoctoral students, cooperation with domestic and foreign partners, and communication with the general public, including the popularization of scientific research result s and the reflect ion of the current and future needs and values of society.
As a partner in this project, Biology Centre intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards training of the Fellows. Biology Centre can host up to two Fellows per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at Biology Centre.
Duration of secondments will be 2 months and will be arranged in communication with the Fellow. Fellows who will do secondments at Biology Centre will come from the field related or complementary to the field of work of Biology Centre. At Biology Centre Fellows will have a possibility to learn methods and procedures that Biology Centre is using. Biology Centre will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. During secondments, Fellows can stay employed by EMBL.
Biology Centre intends also to host mini-secondments in a duration of up to two weeks, during which Fellows will shadow operations at Biology Centre.
