Career Accelerator for Research Infrastructure Scientists
The Francis Crick Institute is a partnership between Cancer Research UK, the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King’s College London. It is a registered charity whose purpose is to conduct biomedical research into all aspects of human health and disease.
The Crick is a world-leading centre of biomedical research and innovation. It promotes connections between researchers and disciplines and between academic institutions, healthcare organisations and businesses. Dedicated to research excellence, the Crick has the scale, vision and expertise to tackle the most challenging scientific questions underpinning health and disease. It is world-class with a strong national role-training scientists and developing ideas for public good. The Crick is located in a new, purpose built research centre in Midland Road, St. Pancras and houses around 1,500 staff.
As a partner in this project, The Francis Crick Institute intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards training of the Fellows. The Francis Crick Institute can host up to two Fellows per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at The Francis Crick Institute. Duration of secondments will be between 2 and 6 months and will be arranged in communication with the Fellow.
Fellows who will do secondments at The Francis Crick Institute will come from the field related or complementary to the field of work of The Francis Crick Institute. At The Francis Crick Institute, Fellows will have a possibility to learn hardware and software design to create novel solutions for correlative microscopy, targeted to biological applications in human health and disease. The Fellows will also have a chance to get acquainted with the operation of (light, X-ray and electron microscopes, and all ancillary equipment required for sample preparation and image analysis and interpretation. The Francis Crick Institute will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. During secondments, Fellows can stay employed by EMBL.
The Francis Crick Institute intends also to host mini-secondments in a duration of up to two weeks, during which Fellows will shadow operations at The Francis Crick Institute.
