Fraunhofer IPA – one of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’s largest institutes- was founded in 1959 and employs nearly 1000 scientists. It has an annual budget of over 70 million euros, with more than one third coming from industrial projects. Our fut ure and lead topics include the biointelligent value chain, biointegrated devices, bio logical and digital t ransformat ion in the context of Industry 4.0, energy storage systems, frugal manufacturing systems, artificial intelligence in automation, lightweight engineering and resource efficiency.
Organizational and technological assignments related to manufacturing are the focus of our research and development work. We develop, test and implement methods, components and equipment right up to complete machines and plants. As a partner in this project, IPA intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards training of the Fellow. IPA can host up to one Fellow per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at IPA. Duration of secondments will be between 2 and 6 months and will be arranged in communication wit h the Fellow. Fellows who will do secondments at IPA will come from the field related or complementary to the field of work of IPA. At IPA Fellows will have a possibility to learn assessment of technical feasibility, device and plant development, counseling and project management.
The Fellows will also have a chance to get acquainted with the operation of robotics, embedded systems programming, computer aided design for the field of laboratory automation. IPA will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. During secondments, Fellows can stay employed by EMBL.
IPA inten ds also to host mini-secondments in a duration of up to two weeks, during which Fellows will shadow operations at IPA.
