Biomedical MRI unit/ MoSAIC, Dept. Imaging and Pathology (KU Leuven) MoSAIC is a cutting-edge core facility, housing state-of-the-art hardware dedicated to in vivo small-animal imaging for biomedical research, such as 9.4T & 7T MRI, PET, PET-CT and PET-MR, whole-body optical imaging, intravital FCFM, OCT, ultrasound and micro-CT. Besides imaging hardware, MoSAIC is equipped with its own animal facility, animal surgery, behavior tests and a macroscopy laboratory. It is a biosafety level 2 facility, which allows safely working with many (transgenic) animal models.

As a partner in this project, MoSAIC intends to cooperate with the EMBL towards training of the Fellows. MoSAIC can host up to one or two Fellows per year in the period 2020-2024 through secondments and introduce them to the ways of working, instrumentation and procedures at MoSAIC. Duration of secondments will be between 2 and 6 months (period can be flexible, to be defined upon mutual agreement) and will be arranged in communication with the Fellow. Fellows who will do secondments at MoSAIC will come from the field related or complementary to the field of work of MoSAIC. At MoSAIC,

Fellows will have a possibility to learn non-invasive small animal imaging by use of MRI, CT, PET and optical imaging techniques. The Fellows will also have a chance to get acquainted with the operation of the other facilities at KU Leuven, such as for light microscopy. MoSAIC will dedicate supervision capacity for each fellow on secondments. During secondments, Fellows can stay employed by EMBL.

MoSAIC intends also to host mini-secondments in a duration of up to two weeks, during which Fellows will shadow operations at KU Leuven.
