15 July: world youth skills day

Today marks the UN-declared day for world youth skills; something we are passionate about at EMBL. We aim to equip the next generation with the biological, bioinformatics, and data skills needed to enter a career in STEM.

The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2023 is skilling teachers, trainers, and youth for a transformative future. It highlights the essential role that teachers, trainers, and other educators play in providing skills for youth to transition to the labour market and to actively engage in their communities and societies.

At EMBL-EBI we have a wide array of free-to-access tutorials, recordings, and learning collections including the pathway dedicated to introductory bioinformatics.

This curated collection brings together several online tutorials and recorded webinars to provide an introduction to bioinformatics, a brief tour of the resources available from EMBL-EBI, and more details about some of those resources, including Ensembl, UniProt, and Expression Atlas.

This collection is for anyone with an interest in learning about bioinformatics and EMBL-EBI services to work through at their own pace. No prior skills are required, but undergraduate-level knowledge of life sciences could be useful.

It’s also a fabulous resource for teachers or trainers wanting to upskill and introduce youth teams, school students, or even undergraduates that you work with to the world of bioinformatics.

All our training materials are free to use, and re-use with credit. Our materials are free cultural works licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, except where further licensing details are provided.
