EMBO | EMBL Symposium

New approaches and concepts in microbiology

Overview

This conference will take place at EMBL Heidelberg, with the option to attend virtually.

Symposium overview

This symposium is the seventh edition of a successful series started in 2013 and held biannually since. It has established itself as a must-attend fixture in the calendar for scientists working with bacteria and new technologies.

The meeting covers a broad range of cutting-edge topics in microbiology, featuring diverse research. Emphasis is placed on novel approaches and technologies (from systems-based to single-cell) that drive each field or have the potential to revolutionise future microbiology research. The meeting is always oversubscribed and manages to bring together scientists from different areas, who usually don’t meet, creating a highly interactive and dynamic atmosphere.

Session topics

  • Bacterial systems biology
  • Bacterial cell biology and protein machines
  • Microbiomes
  • Environment and evolution
  • Pathogenesis and phage
  • Antibiotic discovery, mechanisms, and resistance

What past participants say about the conference

The conference tackled all the important topics in current microbiology, with an adequate length and a good variety of presenters. The networking sessions were good as they can be online (without food and drinks) and the discussion panels may have been the highlight for me!”
