EMBO | EMBL Symposium

Metabolic interactions shape ecosystems

Overview

This conference will take place at EMBL Heidelberg, with the option to attend virtually.

Registration is not yet open for this event. If you are interested in receiving more information please register your interest.

Symposium overview

Metabolic interactions shape all kind biological ecosystems, from holobionts to planetary-scale environmental systems, and to anthropogenic, engineered environments. Their paramount importance is evident by a pervasive influence on the development, resilience, and sustainability of ecosystems.

In environmental systems, whether marine or land ones, understanding metabolic interactions is key to deciphering nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration, and overall ecosystem functioning.
Recognizing the interconnectedness of these metabolic networks is crucial for advancing our comprehension of ecosystem dynamics and for informing strategies that promote ecological balance, human health, and sustainable practices across ecosystems.

By bringing together metabolic experts from diverse fields, who typically do not meet at the same conference, this meeting aims to enable the exchange of biological hypotheses and insights, as well as that of cutting-edge methodologies and analytical solutions.

The outcomes of this conference are poised to inform sustainable practices, advance research methodologies, and drive transformative advancements in the understanding and management of metabolic interactions in complex biological ecosystems.

About

EMBO | EMBL Symposia promote scientific communication and collaboration in the European research area. They provide scientists with a platform to discuss and exchange ideas on forward-looking topics and new developments in the life sciences.

Topics emphasise upcoming developments and the interdisciplinary nature of related fields. Jointly funded and organised by EMBO and EMBL – and complementary to their respective courses, workshops, and conference programmes – the symposia promote scientific communication and collaboration.

All symposia are held in the EMBL Advanced Training Centre (ATC) in Heidelberg, Germany, or virtually.
