EMBL Courses and Conferences are a major European platform for sharing and expanding research, knowledge and contacts through face-to-face and virtual interaction
The EMBL Course and Conference Programme is made up of practical courses, workshops, and conferences across the six EMBL sites. These events are logistically organised by the Course and Conference Office, but brought to life by the scientific organisers who invest their time and effort to ensure their success. This page contains useful information for scientific organisers on our events, how to apply to be an organiser, and our operational guidelines.
EMBL Conferences and EMBO Workshops
These conferences reflect a healthy balance of topics directly covering EMBL’s research areas together with less-represented areas which are in the general interest of EMBL scientists as well as the European life-science research community. Any EMBL Group Leader or external scientist can apply to run a conference with us. All applications will go through the EMBL Course and Conference Committee for discussion and approval.
Conference guidelines
EMBO | EMBO Symposia
The symposia focus on forward-looking topics and new developments in the life sciences. The event topics, speakers, and organisers are decided on by the EMBO | EMBL Symposia committee, and therefore are not open for applications.
EMBL Courses and EMBO Practical Courses
Reflecting the scientific research carried out by EMBL scientists and beyond, most of our courses are comprised of a mix of wet-lab and bioinformatics modules. Any EMBL Group Leader or external scientist can apply to run a course with us. Please note, that applications will only be accepted from academia. If you are from industry, you will have to identify an academic organiser to co-organise the course. All applications will go through the EMBL Course and Conference Committee for discussion and approval.
