Computational Biology

About Computational Biology

The Data Science Centre provides guidance and expertise in computational biology, supporting EMBL’s interdisciplinary research by bridging biology, mathematics, and computer science within a collaborative framework.

Computational biology is the use and development of computational tools to analyse data generated by advanced technologies, such as cryo-EM, high-throughput sequencing, and multi-omics experiments. By combining experimental and computational approaches, it addresses key questions in molecular biology, developmental biology, and structural biology. These integrative approaches promote reproducible and scalable research through robust data management and analysis workflows.

How can Computational Biology help your research?

Computational biology offers researchers a valuable toolkit to:

  • Strengthen the quality of research data by promoting effective computational and data management practices.
  • Enhance transparency and reproducibility by aligning with EMBL’s Open Science policy.
  • Optimize data-software workflows and troubleshoot technical challenges through consulting services.
  • Empower collaborative scientific discovery by maintaining and developing infrastructure that supports teamwork and data sharing.

Bio-IT

Bio-IT mission is to provide EMBL-HD with a platform for information and discussion about bioinformatics and to promote networking amongst its diverse bioinformatics user community.
