Statistical Methods

About Statistical Methods

The Data Science Centre offers guidance on statistical methods to support EMBL researchers in applying adequate methods throughout their research projects, from the planning phase to data analysis and manuscript submission. We provide expertise on a broad range of computational methods, including data visualization, hypothesis testing, regression, clustering, classification, dimensionality reduction, and quality control.

By applying these essential tools effectively, researchers can ensure the validity and reproducibility of their findings.

How can Statistical Methods help your research?

Statistical methods play a crucial role in all phases of a project. They can help you:

  • Inform your experimental design during the planning phase.
  • Make sense of complex data sets, by visualizing them in a meaningful way, or through dimensionality reduction.
  • Test biological hypotheses in a stringent way.
  • Quantify the uncertainty in your estimates.
  • Model your data quantitatively, as a tool to generate new hypotheses.

Our services

The Data Science Centre offers consulting, collaborations, and training in statistical methods, providing you with the resources and expertise to incorporate statistical best practices throughout your research.
