Managing, analysing and sharing data at scale

Data management

The Data Management team supports EMBL’s research by ensuring the efficient handling, storage, and accessibility of scientific data.  We develop and maintain data infrastructures, implement best practices for data stewardship, and facilitate compliance with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles.

The team works closely with researchers, scientific core facilities, IT services, and other data management experts to harmonise efforts in large-scale biological data management across EMBL’s international sites

We are distributed across EMBL’s sites in Grenoble, Rome, and Heidelberg, with particular focus on data from structural biology and genomics, although we’re excited to discuss and support any data type encountered across EMBL’s many research areas.

Services we aim to provide include guidance on data management plans, relevant metadata standards, developing workflows to optimize efficiency and reproducibility, and providing advice on sharing data through public repositories.

Data Management Plans

To assist researchers in writing comprehensive data management plans, the team offers access to the Data Stewardship Wizard, an interactive tool that helps structure and refine data planning according to institutional and funder requirements.
