Physiological and adaptive responses to agrochemicals in insects.

We have recently characterized the sublethal effects triggered by 1024 different agrochemicals on the behavior and physiology of Drosophila larvae. Expanding on our ongoing research, we deepen our understanding of how these molecules impact animal systems. First, we will use Thermal Proteome Profiling to identify the molecular elements affected by these chemicals, and the mechanisms involved in the detoxification process. We will also explore how the gut microbiome influences these effects by analyzing molecules secreted by bacteria in the presence of agrochemicals, and their impact on larval physiology and behavior. Finally, we will analyze the adaptive response of Drosophila populations to sub-lethal concentrations of these chemicals by periodically monitoring the genotypes, phenotypes, and gut microbiome composition of evolving populations.
