Understanding life in its natural context

STARDUST

Ultrastructural biodiversity of dinoflagellates across the European coastline.

Planktons are an indispensable part of aquatic ecosystems and key to maintaining coastal health, however are largely understudied. We intend to explore how these microplanktonic communities vary with environmental gradients at a (sub)cellular scale with a directed focus on marine dinoflagellates. STARDUST plans to apply high-resolution multimodal correlative imaging techniques to study the vast dinoflagellate diversity within heterogeneous environmental samples collected directly from the seas.
