Enabling external scientists and students to benefit from new collaborations, technologies and state-of-the-art equipment
The hosting group or team leader decides upon the remuneration for a trainee internship or a Master’s thesis. Below, we point you to some common sources of funding for Master’s level students to visit us:
If you are a recent graduate from a university degree, you could spend time at EMBL in a traineeship in preparation for doctoral studies (Ph.D) or similar employment in a life science research environment?
Procedure: Contact an EMBL group leader of your choice, who will assess your interest fit, time commitment and availability. Eventually, you may be offered a paid or unpaid opportunity for supervised training in the laboratory for a typical duration of several months
Potential sources of external funding for such visitors are listed below:
If you are an external Ph.D student and are typically supported by a stipend or salary from your home institute, you might spend time with a collaborating EMBL research group, train in a new technique, or execute part of Ph.D project at EMBL. In all cases, the possibility of a stay relies on an agreement with a potential hosting EMBL group leader.
To facilitate and encourage such visits to EMBL, we have some internal competitive funding opportunities which provide varying degrees of financial support to awardees. In addition, we also list some prominent external fellowships (not exhaustive) which offer financial support for scientific exchange visits applicable to PhD students.
If you are a postdoctoral researcher typically supported by a salary from your home institute, you may wish to undertake a short visit to EMBL as part of initiating/continuing collaboration with an EMBL group leader to progress your research and/or learn new methods.
