Welcome to the celebration of a remarkable milestone – the 50th anniversary of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.
As we reflect on EMBL’s ground-breaking achievements and advancements in molecular biology over the past half-century and the many global leaders trained at EMBL, we invite you to be a part of shaping the future. EMBL’s headquarters were established in 1974, and its five sites followed over time. In 2025 EMBL is celebrating the 50th anniversaries of its sites in Grenoble and Hamburg . Join us as we honour our past and shape the future of science together.
The core of EMBL’s work is funded by member state contributions and grants. With private support, we can go even further. Philanthropy has already kickstarted research projects seeking novel solutions for environmental challenges, enabled hundreds of scientists from around the world to take part in our training, promoted the advancement of women in science and helped ignite a passion for the life sciences in young learners.
