The Library was opened on the 20th November 1979 and it is named after the Hungarian-American scientist Leo Szilárd, who in part initiated the idea of EMBL.

A new home for the EMBL Szilárd Library

On 8 December 2022, inauguration of the new reading room in ATC took place. The opening was followed by several events to celebrate the official reopening of the Szilárd Library.
