Dr. Jan Ellenberg is Unit Head and Senior Scientist at EMBL Heidelberg and leads a research group on cell division and nuclear organisation. In the EMBL Insight Lecture 2015, Jan Ellenberg provides an introduction to mammalian cell biology. He discusses how individual molecular building blocks create a functional cell and what we know about cell division. In the main part of his talk, Jan shares his insights into cutting-edge cell division research. He demonstrates how his team uses genetic approaches combined with high-throughput light microscopy and computational modeling and analysis to uncover the molecular mechanisms behind the most essential step of life.
