Visual systems neuroscience

The project will be focused on the following main questions in the lab: 1) how signals flow within retinal circuits; 2) how retinal outputs are modulated under different internal states of an animal; and 3) how retinal outputs are integrated in the downstream circuits. Applicants wishing to integrate computational and experimental approaches are especially encouraged to apply. Research experience in any one of these areas is highly preferred but not required: mouse molecular genetics, viral neuronal tracing, behavioural assays, two-photon microscopy, optogenetics, electrophysiology, and computational modelling. A background in the physical/mathematical/computational sciences or engineering is beneficial. The successful candidate is expected to take a strong lead on his/her project and start to develop independent ideas. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to address questions in systems neuroscience using a variety of cutting-edge techniques, including anatomical, physiological, and/or computational tools. Research experience in neuroscience or related fields is desired. Students are further expected to be highly motivated to work on challenging research projects in an international team for at least 1 year for a proper training.
