Open positions

Joining the lab

Currently there are opportunities to join our research group as a PhD or Master student.

Applicants for PhD positions or Bachelor / Master students

Students will have the opportunity to learn about and employ a variety of bioinformatics and statistical tools to analyze microbiome data and associated contextual and multi-omics data from the human gut and the environment. Previous experience in bioinformatics, biostatistics or microbiology are beneficial, especially in the analysis of microbiome data with shotgun metagenomics sequencing data. Students are expected to be highly motivated to work on challenging research projects in an international team.

PhD applicants: We have two open PhD positions, one focused on the spread of antimicrobial resistance through horizontal gene transfer and the other one with a broader scope, allowing the candidate to define their research direction within the diverse topics explored by the group. Please apply through the EMBL International PhD Programme.

Bachelor /Master students: Please have a look at the pages for Visitors and Undergraduates and send your CV and a brief motivation letter to Peer Bork directly. Note that internships should be at least six months long, so that there is enough time to get familiar with the research methods and tackle a substantial research question.
