EMBL Barcelona co-organises first conference
James Sharpe, Head of EMBL Barcelona, co-chairs morphogenetic engineering-themed conference
This week, the first conference co-organised by EMBL Barcelona took place, focused on morphogenetic engineering. The three-day event was co-organised by the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and drew more than 20 international experts from areas including tissue morphogenesis, gene regulation, developmental mechanics, organoids, regeneration and engineering. Participants at the event explored parallels between naturally-evolved systems and biological systems that are engineered in the laboratory to further our understanding of tissue biology.
James Sharpe, Head of EMBL Barcelona, co-chaired the meeting, which was part of the long-running Barcelona BioMed Conference Series. EMBL Barcelona focuses on tissue biology, and key aims of the new site include studies of how tissues that make up our bodies grow, build, fix and maintain themselves. The site is currently recruiting scientists interested in studying the dynamic interactions of multicellular systems underlying these processes.
