EMBL strengthens collaboration with Spanish research
On 9 October, Edith Heard, EMBL General Director, and Rosa Menéndez, Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) President, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
On 9 October, EMBL and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding that paves the way for stronger collaboration between these two leading research institutions.
In the framework of European cooperation in science and research, this new agreement seeks to stimulate mutually beneficial scientific and academic exchange and collaboration in the life sciences, and in particular to ensure greater connectivity, availability of scientific data, use of shared key technology, and circulation of talent.
The existing areas of collaboration and ties between the main public research agency in Spain and Europe’s flagship laboratory for the life sciences are manifold, and are destined to grow and thrive in the future. The memorandum is expected to further expand the EMBL collaborative network in Spain and integrate CSIC research into EMBL’s dynamic scientific ecosystem.
“CSIC’s and EMBL’s cutting-edge research will be boosted by a stronger and more structured cooperation between the two research institutions,” says Professor Edith Heard, EMBL Director General, who attended the signing ceremony in Madrid together with Professor Ángela Nieto, EMBL Council delegate for Spain and CSIC Research Professor, and Plamena Markova, Head of EMBL International Relations.“The agreement highlights the growing role EMBL will play in collaborating with and supporting the Spanish science ecosystem.”
“This agreement will enlarge and strengthen the existing collaboration between EMBL and CSIC,” say CSIC President Rosa Menéndez and Elena Domínguez, CSIC Vice-president for International Relations. “Together, they have already taken part in 30 projects within the European Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation.”
El EMBL refuerza su colaboración con la investigación española
El 9 de octubre, el Laboratorio Europeo de Biología Molecular (EMBL) y el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) han firmado un acuerdo de colaboración (Memorando de Entendimiento) que allana el camino para una colaboración más estrecha entre las dos destacadas instituciones científicas.
En el marco de la colaboración europea en ciencia e investigación, este nuevo acuerdo busca fomentar un beneficioso intercambio científico y académico y la colaboración en ciencias de la vida y, en particular, persigue asegurar una conexión más amplia y una mayor disponibilidad de datos científicos, así como el uso compartido de tecnologías clave y la circulación de talento.
Las áreas de colaboración y los vínculos entre el mayor organismo público de investigación español y el principal laboratorio europeo en ciencias de la vida son múltiples y se espera que prosperen aún más en el futuro. Este acuerdo ampliará la red de colaboraciones científicas en España e integrará la investigación del CSIC en el dinámico ecosistema científico del EMBL.
“La investigación puntera que llevan a cabo el CSIC y EMBL recibirá un impulso gracias a una cooperación más intensa y estructurada entre ambas instituciones”, ha indicado la Profesora Edith Heard, Directora General del EMBL, que ha asistido a la ceremonia de firma en Madrid junto con la Profesora Ángela Nieto, delegada del Consejo del EMBL para España y Profesora de Investigación del CSIC, y Plamena Markova, Directora de Relaciones Internacionales del EMBL. “El acuerdo pone de relieve el papel cada vez más importante que juega EMBL y continuará jugando en la colaboración y en el apoyo al ecosistema científico español”, ha agregado.
“Este acuerdo ampliará y fortalecerá la ya existente colaboración entre EMBL y CSIC, que conjuntamente ya han participado en 30 proyectos en los dos últimos Programas Marco de Investigación e Innovación de la UE”, ha declarado la presidenta del CSIC, Rosa Menéndez, junto a la vicepresidenta de Relaciones Internacionales del CSIC, Elena Domínguez.
