EMBL signed a Memorandum of Understanding on scientific collaboration with the Flanders Institute of Biotechnology (VIB). EMBL and VIB recognized the long-standing collaboration between EMBL and Belgium in general, and between EMBL and VIB in particular, with the MoU expressing their shared interest to further strengthen scientific and science-related cooperation between EMBL and the Belgian and VIB research communities.
Based on this MoU, VIB and EMBL plan to develop research collaborations in fields of mutual interest, especially in the framework of EMBL’s scientific Programme Molecules to Ecosystems and VIB’s strategic plan 2022-2026 for strategic basic life science research, scientific services provision, training of scientific talent, and technology transfer.
Areas for collaboration include, among others, Planetary Biology and Plant Systems Biology, Infection Biology and Immunity/Inflammation, Neurosciences, Data Sciences and Quantitative Biology. The MoU will also support discussions on research-based innovation in various areas of the life sciences, as well as promote training and staff exchanges.
