Understanding heart degeneration, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and tumours
Building upon existing links between the two organisations, the researchers in this partnership will investigate how human tissues and organs develop and are organised.
The partnership between EMBL and the Hubrecht Institute realises the potential for uniting the complementary strengths in the field of stem cell and tissue biology. Building upon existing links between the two organisations, the researchers in this partnership will investigate how human tissues and organs develop and are organised, advancing our understanding of a wide range of diseases, including heart degeneration, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and tumours. The Partners will aim to promote the following collaborative activities:
The Hubrecht Institute is a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) situated in Utrecht. This leading research center in the Netherlands focuses on developmental and stem cell biology. The Institute currently harbours 20 research groups and has an unparalleled research infrastructure with state-of-the-art imaging and FACS facilities, animal facilities (flies, worms, zebrafish, frogs, mice and rats) and tissue culture facilities particularly aimed at growing organoids, as well as molecular biology labs.
