Scientific exchange and collaboration in molecular marine biology
The partnership between EMBL and the Michael Sars Centre realises the potential for uniting the institutes' complementary strengths in order to facilitate scientific exchange and collaboration in the field of marine molecular biology.
The Michael Sars Centre is established within the University of Bergen as an independent research center, organised in nine internationally recruited independent research groups, with members from more than 20 countries.
The Michael Sars Centre comprises various studies of the basic biological processes in marine biology using functional and comparative molecular methods. Its scientific profile has been gradually built up in two directions:
Alliances with institutions on or near EMBL sites.
Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) build on and establish new collaborative links.
Fostering close relations and dialogue with scientific communities and government.
